Vandana meaning worship or praise is a common female name in India. Females enroll into medical colleges In India at higher rate than males, and females also graduate medical colleges at a higher rate than males. Yet, when it comes to practicing medicine, less than 18% of allopathic practitioners in India are female. Go figure! So, when you have two experienced female allopathic practicing physicians, each serving and saving tens of thousands of lives in their respective specialized fields, and both share the same name, Vandana, it makes for an interesting conversation. Especially, when they are discussing violence against doctors, which, albeit being an age-old problem, in the recent decade has become a crisis of life and death for many for doctors in India. Here is a recorded dialogue between Drs. (Prof) Vandana Midha, Internal-Medicine from Ludhiana and Vandana Dahiya, Radiation Oncologist from Jamnagar. Two highly capable and qualified women who share a passion for medicine and who speak their minds.
