Deepak-Raj Gupta made history when he became the first ever Indian-born person to be elected to an Australian parliament. In this second of a two-part series of conversations, Deepak-Raj talks about some of the many hats he wears as a leader of the Indian diaspora in Canberra. He is the patron and former president of the Canberra Indian Council, which organises the hugely popular India in the City segment of the National Multicultural Festival held every February. He is also the mastermind of the annual World Curry Festival held to heat up Canberrans during the freezing winters. Deepak-Raj is a former president and life member of the Australia India Business Council ACT chapter, which strives to promote bilateral trade and investment between Australia and India. He was awarded the ACT Multicultural Advocate of the Year in 2012 and the Community Service Award at the India Australia Business and Community Awards in 2015.
