Bhakti Chapalgaonkar grew up in Aurangabad and now Lives in Mumbai. She fondly remembers the ‘Sade-Soope -Sakas’ (Simple Easy and Nutritional) and extremely tasty recipes of her Mother Nandini Chapalgaonkar who in her days had defied societal norms and family expectations to start a business supplying ‘Simple & Good Food’ to the office going people and the students in Aurangabad from a stall. She soon grew the business to employ up to thirty women in her thriving kitchen. To this day, in her seventies, Nandini Chapalgaonkar continues tirelessly with divine endeavor. Savvy on social media and having a long experience of news reporting, Bhakti started a FaceBook group: Mumbai Swayampakghar (Mumbai Kitchen in Marathi) to carefully curate and preserve her mother’s recipes. She soon opened it to like-minded patrons who were themselves serious about preserving and proliferating Authentic, Regional Maharashtrian cuisine. The beauty of using social media in the right way and for the right purpose: Mumbai Swayampakghar today has Members from all over the Globe. All of them serious food enthusiasts. The Group activities have contributed to UNICEF’s Integrated Child Development Scheme and The Shidori Scheme started by the Maharashtra State Government (Shidori means a Lunch Packet in Marathi). Evergreen Story interviewed Bhakti about her Steller & prolific Ideas about Good Food in General and specifically about preserving the Authentic Maharashtrian Cuisine.
