In the 1970s, Colonel Jagjit Lal Sahdev, who passed earlier this year, was posted to the Northeast region of India, specifically to the landlocked state of Mizoram which shares borders with Myanmar and Bangladesh. There he had the herculean task of building a bridge in difficult terrain, a task at which he succeeded and was honored by the President of India. Here his daughter Dr. Sumita Sahdev, from her home in Ludhiana, who was there with her father in Mizoram during the building of the bridge, shares the story of his courage.
